Almost 8 million vehicles from 10 different automakers have been recalled to replace installed Takata airbags. The issue revolves around exposure to humidity affecting the propellant inside the airbag mechanism, which can lead to additional force in the combustion, which can lead to rupture of the inflator housing. In a collision metal shards can be sprayed into the passenger cabin.
The recall was originally limited to areas of high humidity, however Honda has expanded the recall to all 50 states.
If you have an affected vehicle it is imperative that you take it to your nearest dealer or authorized repair location to address the faulty airbags.
